Grandma’s Chocolate Cream Pie

TOTAL TIME: 3 HOURS 30 MIN

This recipe does not include a recipe for crust, though grandma usually made her own, I don't! I'm including the whipped cream recipe I followed here, but you could also use canned whipped cream. Totally up to you, I'm not here to judge.

INGREDIENTS

1 1/4 Cups White Sugar
1/4 Cup Cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon table salt
1 1/2 Cups Cocoa Powder
4 egg yolks
3 Cups Whole Milk
8 tablespoons Butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS

Follow the instructions on your store-bought crust.

In a large bowl, thoroughly mix white sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cocoa powder.

Take 1 cup of milk, gradually incorporate (with a fork) into your dry ingredients.

Heat 2 cups of milk on the stove on medium. (Do not boil)

In a small bowl, whisk your egg yolks together until combined.

Stir in your mixed egg yolk into your other mixture.

Once your milk is warm, slowly stir in your chocolate mixture.

Stir this mixture until thickened. Do not stop.

Once your filling has thickened, remove from heat and add vanilla.

Stir in your butter.

Finally, pour your chocolate filling into the pie crust to set for 2-3 hours.
